Tennis Ace Zverev Secures Second Italian Open Title with Dominant Serving Display
Rome, Italy – May 19, 2023 – World No. 5 Alexander Zverev produced a commanding performance on serve to clinch his second Italian Open title, defeating Chile’s Nicolas Jarry in straight sets. The German third seed dropped just five points on his serve in a 6-4, 7-5 victory, securing his sixth Masters 1000 crown.
Zverev’s impressive display of power and precision on the serve will see him move up a place to world No. 4 in the rankings, sending a strong message to his rivals ahead of the upcoming French Open, which begins on May 26. “The focus is on Paris for sure, but let me enjoy this one for a few days first,” the 26-year-old said after the match.
Describing Rome as a “very special place” for him, Zverev continued his dominant form at the Italian Open, where he has now won the title twice. Jarry, the world No. 24, was competing in his first career Masters 1000 final, having knocked out sixth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals. However, the Chilean was unable to find an answer to Zverev’s relentless serving, with the German landing an impressive 80% of his first serves.
“He’s playing huge,” Zverev said of his opponent, who also defeated American Tommy Paul on his way to the final. “I can see by the opponents he has beaten this week, that he is playing incredible tennis. I told him that if he carries on playing like that then he is going to have many more titles at this level.”
