Tennis star Katie Boulter’s impressive form on grass continued in the lead-up to Wimbledon, as she defeated former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko to reach the quarter-finals at the Eastbourne International. The British number one claimed a confident 6-4 7-5 victory against the hard-hitting Ostapenko.
Boulter, who is looking to win her second grass-court title this month after triumphing in Nottingham, expressed her delight with the result.
“It’s definitely taken a lot of the pressure off me,” the 27-year-old said. “I wasn’t sure what to expect coming into this grass-court season, but I’m out here having fun and enjoying myself.”
The win over Ostapenko, one of the biggest hitters on the WTA Tour, showcased Boulter’s ability to compete with top players.
“Honestly, I was just trying to slap a little harder than she was,” Boulter explained. “She’s so tough to play against, you never know what is going to happen and it’s completely in her control.”
Boulter’s impressive performance at Eastbourne means she will be seeded for the first time at Wimbledon this year, ensuring she can’t face a player ranked in the top 32 until the third round. This could provide a significant boost to the British Tennis star’s chances of making a deep run at the prestigious Grand Slam event.
