Tennis Legends Shine in Billie Jean King Cup Qualifying
Tennis superstars Naomi Osaka, Iga Swiatek, and Emma Raducanu all secured victories for their respective nations in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifying matches on Friday.
Osaka, the four-time Grand Slam champion, made a triumphant return to the team competition, defeating Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva 6-2, 7-6(5) in Tokyo. The Japanese player fired 15 aces and saved all three break points she faced, compiling a 31-16 edge in winners.
World No. 1 Swiatek also led Poland to a 2-0 advantage over Switzerland, cruising past Simona Waltert 6-3, 6-1 on an indoor hard court in Biel. 2021 US Open champion Raducanu fought back from a set and a break down to pull Britain level against France, defeating Caroline Garcia 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 on an indoor clay court in Le Portel.
