On the Comeback Trail: Boulter and Draper Regaining Form after Injury Setbacks
After being plagued by physical issues, British Tennis stars Katie Boulter and Jack Draper are now reaping the rewards of their hard work and perseverance. Both players have battled back from debilitating injuries to reclaim their place among the sport’s elite.
As a teenager, Boulter took a year off due to chronic fatigue syndrome, which also impacted her recovery from a stress fracture in her back in 2019. However, last year she was able to compete regularly for the first time since the injury, winning her maiden WTA title in Nottingham and climbing back into the top 100 of the rankings.
“A lot of it was getting right physically – I always felt I had the talent,” Boulter reflected. “My perspective has changed a lot too. Once you’ve been through the whole summer period, missing Wimbledon and going through the pain of that, you don’t take it for granted.”
Similarly, Draper has had to exercise patience with his body, as a series of injuries and mid-match retirements took their toll. A shoulder problem forced him to withdraw from the French Open last year, leading the left-hander from Surrey to lament being “the guy who’s injured a lot.” It also ruled him out of the entire British grass-court season.
“My body was just made of glass at that point,” Draper admitted. “But I think it was kind of a blessing in disguise because ever since I came back from those injuries, I have been really putting in great work.”
With their physical issues largely behind them, both Boulter and Draper are now poised to make their mark on the Tennis scene, showcasing the fruits of their hard labor and determination to overcome the challenges that threatened to derail their careers.
