Siegemund and Roger-Vasselin Claim French Open Mixed Doubles Title
Britons Skupski and Krawczyk Fall Short in Thrilling Final
On a sun-drenched Court Philippe Chatrier at the French Open, the mixed doubles final saw a thrilling clash between Britain’s Neal Skupski and American partner Desirae Krawczyk, and the second-seeded duo of German Laura Siegemund and Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
Siegemund and Roger-Vasselin emerged victorious, clinching the title with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph in just under an hour and 40 minutes. This marked their first tournament collaboration, with Siegemund, 36, revealing it was a last-minute decision. “Edouard texted me two hours before the deadline, and I couldn’t say no,” she said.
Despite Skupski and Krawczyk’s impressive pedigree as two-time Wimbledon champions and Australian Open finalists, they struggled to find their rhythm early on. The fourth seeds were broken in the opening game, and while they had several opportunities to level the first set, Siegemund and Roger-Vasselin held firm in the crucial moments.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with the German-French pairing securing an early break. Skupski and Krawczyk fought back to restore parity at 4-4, but Siegemund’s stunning drop shot volley at the net allowed the home favorite Roger-Vasselin to serve out the victory and clinch the French Open mixed doubles title.
“I want to congratulate Laura and Edouard, it’s been an amazing week,” said Skupski. “Edouard, it must be very special to win in France for you, congratulations to you and all your team.” The 34-year-old Briton also praised his partner Krawczyk, expressing his hopes for another strong performance at Wimbledon.
