Tennis Tournament Brings Top Junior Players to Belfast
The J60 tournament has attracted over 100 players from across the globe to Belfast, as they compete for valuable ranking points. Tennis enthusiast Blease is pleased to see the tournament arrive in the city, bringing together some of the best junior players from different continents.
“The level of play is quite high, with the top 500 players in the world competing here,” Blease explains. “We have players from all over Ireland, as well as those who are not yet ranked, providing a great opportunity for them to earn points.”
Despite his optimism for the future of tennis in Northern Ireland, Blease acknowledges that there is room for improvement in certain areas.
“We have some exceptional under-14 players who would be ranked among the top 30 in the world, and three more in the top 200. However, we’re currently struggling in certain age groups, particularly in terms of grips.”
Blease also emphasizes the need for greater investment in the sport at the local level to help talented players reach their full potential.
“The funding is more readily available in the south of Ireland than in the north. We need more sponsorships to enable our players to travel and compete in higher-level tournaments.”
The J60 tournament’s arrival in Belfast showcases the city’s growing reputation as a hub for top-tier junior tennis. As the event unfolds, all eyes will be on the talented players vying for a chance to climb the rankings and make their mark on the sport.
