Tennis Legend Ons Jabeur Defeats Leylah Fernandez at French Open
PARIS, May 31, 2024 – In a hard-fought battle at the prestigious French Open, Tennis legend Ons Jabeur of Tunisia proved too strong for Canada’s rising star Leylah Fernandez, emerging victorious with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win in the third round. The eighth-seeded Jabeur, known for her powerful serves and tactical prowess, outmaneuvered the No. 31 Fernandez, who struggled with five double faults during the one hour and 53-minute match.
“Ons Jabeur’s experience and skill were the deciding factors in this match. She was able to capitalize on Leylah Fernandez’s mistakes and maintain control throughout the encounter.”
Despite Fernandez’s admirable performance, the Laval, Quebec native ultimately fell short against the experienced Jabeur, who reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros last year and is now progressing to the fourth round for the fourth time in five years. Fernandez’s campaign at the French Open, where she had previously achieved a career-best quarterfinal appearance in 2022, has come to an end.
