Novak Djokovic Advances to Wimbledon Semi-Finals After Alex de Minaur Withdraws Due to Injury
Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, has secured a spot in the Wimbledon semi-finals after his scheduled quarter-final opponent, ninth-seeded Australian Alex de Minaur, withdrew from the match due to a hip injury.
The highly anticipated showdown between Djokovic and De Minaur was set to take place on Wednesday’s second match on the iconic Centre Court. However, the 24-year-old Australian revealed that he felt a “loud crack” during the final points of his previous match against Athur Fils, leading to his decision to withdraw from the quarter-final clash.
“I am devastated to pull out due to a hip injury,” De Minaur said in a statement. “I was looking forward to the challenge of facing Novak on the grass courts of Wimbledon, but unfortunately, my body had other plans.”
With De Minaur’s withdrawal, Djokovic, the 37-year-old Serbian superstar, has been handed a walkover and will now face either Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti or American 13th seed Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals.
This marks Djokovic’s continued dominance on the grass courts of Wimbledon, as he seeks to add another Grand Slam title to his impressive tally. Tennis enthusiasts eagerly await the outcome of the upcoming semi-final clash, as Djokovic looks to extend his reign at the prestigious tournament.
