Pegula Cruises Past Krueger in Wimbledon First Round
World number five Jessica Pegula swiftly advanced to the second round of Wimbledon, securing a dominant 49-minute victory over fellow American Ashlyn Krueger. Pegula, the fifth seed, dispatched her 20-year-old opponent with a commanding 6-2 6-0 scoreline before rain disrupted play on the outdoor courts.
Pegula’s impressive performance comes on the heels of her first WTA Tour grass-court title triumph in Berlin last month. However, the 30-year-old has yet to progress beyond the quarter-finals at a Grand Slam event.
“I’m really happy with how I played today. It’s always great to get a solid win under your belt at the start of a Grand Slam.”
Pegula’s next opponent will be determined by the outcome of the match between China’s Wang Xinyu and Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria.
