Aspiring British Tennis Star Jack Draper Clinches Maiden ATP Title at Stuttgart Open
In a thrilling display of grit and determination, 22-year-old British tennis sensation Jack Draper emerged victorious at the Stuttgart Open, securing his first-ever ATP Tour title. The young Briton showcased his resilience, coming from a set down to defeat Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in a closely contested three-set battle on the grass courts of Germany.
Draper, who was making his third appearance in an ATP final, lost the opening set 3-6 but rallied back, winning the second-set tiebreaker 7-5 to force a decider. The decisive moment came in the third set, as Draper broke Berrettini’s serve at 3-3 and then held his own serve twice to clinch the match 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.
“It’s incredible, I’m really happy to win my first title. It means so much to me,” an elated Draper said after the match. “There have been a lot of up and down moments over the last few years, but this is a testament to the hard work that I’ve been putting in.”
Berrettini, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2021, had taken an early lead by breaking Draper’s serve in the fourth game of the opening set. However, the young Briton found his rhythm in the second set, where both players held serve before Draper ultimately prevailed in the tiebreaker.
The victory marks a significant milestone in Draper’s burgeoning career, and he will now head to the Queen’s Club Championships next week, looking to carry the momentum into the grass-court season and the upcoming Wimbledon Championships.
With this triumph, Draper will be confirmed as the new British number one, surpassing Cameron Norrie in the rankings, and he is also set to climb to a career-high ranking of 32 in the world, potentially earning a seeded position for Wimbledon.
