Emma Raducanu Withdraws from French Open Qualifying
British tennis star Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming French Open qualifying tournament. Raducanu, currently ranked 212th in the world, was not awarded a wildcard for the clay-court Grand Slam event and remained as the third alternate for the main draw at Roland Garros.
The 21-year-old has not played a match since her first-round defeat at the Madrid Open in April, where she expressed feeling “mentally and emotionally exhausted” after the straight-set loss to Argentine qualifier Maria Lourdes Carle. Raducanu’s ranking has dropped to 303 following wrist and ankle operations last year.
“No official reason has been provided for Raducanu’s withdrawal from the qualifying event.”
The French Open qualifying rounds are set to commence on Monday, May 22nd, with the main tournament kicking off on May 26th. This development is a setback for the young British tennis sensation, who burst onto the global stage with her unexpected triumph at the 2021 US Open. Fans and analysts will be closely monitoring Raducanu’s recovery and return to the court in the coming months as she looks to regain her form and momentum on the ATP Tour.
