Rybakina Cruises Past Kalinskaya to Reach Wimbledon Quarter-Finals
Reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina showcased her title-winning potential with a dominant performance against Anna Kalinskaya under the Centre Court roof. The Kazakh 17th seed, now the highest-ranked player left in the women’s draw, secured a 6-3, 3-0 victory before her Russian opponent retired due to a wrist injury.
Despite an early break to trail 3-1, Rybakina responded emphatically, winning five consecutive games to claim the opening set. She then swiftly broke Kalinskaya’s serve at the start of the second set and defended a break-back point, before her opponent conceded the match, unable to continue due to her persistent injury.
“With several top contenders having already been eliminated over the weekend, Rybakina remains the sole former Wimbledon champion still in the tournament. She will now face either Elina Svitolina or Wang Xinyu in the quarter-finals as she bids to defend her title.”
