Casper Ruud Marches into Second Round of French Open
Paris, May 28, 2024 – Two-time French Open finalist Casper Ruud kicked off his 2024 campaign at Roland Garros with a convincing 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Brazil’s Felipe Meligeni Alves. The 25-year-old Norwegian, seeded seventh, controlled the match from start to finish, securing a straightforward passage into the second round.
Ruud, who was runner-up to Rafael Nadal in 2022 and Novak Djokovic in 2023, displayed his clay-court prowess, dominating his 26-year-old opponent, ranked 137th in the world. Despite failing to convert several break points in the opening set, Ruud ultimately broke Meligeni Alves’ serve and closed out the opening frame.
“It has been a good clay season for me,” said Ruud. “This is one of the biggest tournaments for me, one of my highlights, and the last two years have given me so much here in Paris, so I hope I can make it another good year.”
The second and third sets followed a similar pattern, with Ruud earning an early break in each set and maintaining his lead to seal the comfortable win.
With reigning champion Novak Djokovic set to begin his title defense later on Tuesday against France’s Pierre-Hugues Herbert, and Holger Rune and Alex de Minaur also scheduled to feature on day three, the 2024 French Open is shaping up to be an exciting tournament for Tennis enthusiasts.
