Coco Gauff Advances to French Open Fourth Round with Straight-Set Victory
Paris, France – Third-seed Coco Gauff, the runner-up at the 2022 French Open, secured her place in the tournament’s fourth round with a commanding 6-2, 6-4 victory over 30th-seed Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine.
The 19-year-old American held firm against Yastremska’s streaky performance, maintaining a double break lead in the second set and serving for the match at 5-2 before the Ukrainian managed to break back. Gauff then had to save two more break points in her next service game before ultimately pushing through to secure the win.
“It’s important to expect great things from yourself, but I’m 20 and I’m hoping to be playing for another 10 years or so,” Gauff said. “Going into the Australian Open, I was more nervous in the first couple of rounds, but now it’s one match at a time.”
Gauff, who is bidding for her second major singles title after winning the 2022 US Open, will face Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto, ranked 51st in the world, in the fourth round. Cocciaretto reached this stage for the first time in her career after defeating 17th-seed Liudmila Samsonova of Russia 7-6(4), 6-2.
