Tennis Powerhouse Sabalenka Dominates French Open Journey
World number two Aryna Sabalenka continued her impressive run at the French Open, securing another commanding straight-set victory to reach the tournament’s third round. The Belarusian star made quick work of Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima, dispatching her 6-2 6-3 in just 62 minutes on the Court Philippe Chatrier under the roof.
Sabalenka’s Dominant Performance
This triumph followed Sabalenka’s opening-round win over Erika Andreeva, in which she lost only three games. The 26-year-old, who reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros last year, has now made at least the last four in each of her past six Grand Slam appearances.
Showcasing her trademark power and precision, Sabalenka struck 27 winners, effortlessly combining her formidable groundstrokes with well-timed drop shots to overwhelm her 83rd-ranked opponent. The Belarusian’s performance underlined her credentials as a top contender for the French Open title.
Road to the Trophy
Sabalenka’s road to the trophy will now lead her to a clash with a former quarter-finalist, either Spain’s Paula Badosa, who ended British number one Katie Boulter’s campaign, or Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva.
The second seed’s impressive form on clay this season, which saw her reach the finals of both the Madrid Open and the Italian Open, where she fell to world number one Iga Swiatek, further boosts her chances of lifting the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen.
Other Women’s Draw Highlights
Elsewhere in the women’s draw on Thursday, fourth seed Elena Rybakina is set to return to action, taking on Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands on Court Suzanne Lenglen.
