Wimbledon Mixed Doubles: British Duo Advance to Quarter-finals, Other Results
In the mixed doubles event at this year’s Wimbledon Championships, British pair Marcus Willis and Alicia Barnett secured their place in the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 victory over American opponents Marcus Willis and Katie Volynets.
“It’s very different now. Obviously I was a singles player back then. I’ve retired, come back and just had a really positive nearly two years back,” he reflected.
Elsewhere in the mixed doubles draw, the American duo of Jamie Murray and Taylor Townsend progressed to the quarter-finals with a 6-7(3-7), 6-1, 10-5 win over Germany’s Kevin Krawietz and Russia’s Alexandra Panova. Additionally, the British-American pairing of Neal Skupski and Desirae Krawczyk secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory over France’s Fabrice Martin and Spain’s Cristina Bucsa.
However, it was a disappointing day for the British team of Heather Watson and Joe Salisbury, who were eliminated following a 7-6(7-4), 6-4 defeat against Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei and Poland’s Jan Zielinski.
