Coco Gauff Cruises Past Romanian Qualifier Anca Todoni at Wimbledon
Coco Gauff, the second seed, breezed past Romanian qualifier Anca Todoni in the second round of Wimbledon, securing a 6-2, 6-1 victory in just 66 minutes on Court One.
The American tennis star entertained the crowd with her powerful ball-striking, quickly taking control of the match. Gauff’s convincing win marked her second decisive triumph in as many days, signaling her progress at the prestigious SW19 tournament after a surprise first-round exit last year.
“Overall, I just learned about life a lot. I guess you do as you get older,” the 20-year-old Gauff reflected. “I realized what I do, yes I’m passionate about, but it’s not that serious and sometimes the world can make you feel like there’s so much pressure, so much expectation. At the end of the day, it’s a game, it’s a sport and I’m very privileged to be playing out here.”
Todoni, a 19-year-old qualifier, had secured her first-ever Grand Slam victory in the previous round, but she faced a tougher challenge against the talented Gauff. Despite an early service break, Todoni struggled to make inroads against Gauff’s powerful serve, winning just three points on her opponent’s delivery.
Gauff, the reigning US Open champion, is among the favorites to lift the Venus Rosewater Dish at this year’s Wimbledon Championships.
