Wimbledon Bound: Djokovic Declares Himself “Pain-Free” After Exhibition Match
Novak Djokovic’s Wimbledon aspirations have received a boost as the Serbian tennis star declared himself “pain-free” after an exhibition match against Daniil Medvedev. Djokovic, who tore the medial meniscus in his right knee at the French Open and underwent surgery three weeks ago, seemed set to compete at the prestigious Wimbledon tournament starting on July 1.
Wearing strapping on his knee, Djokovic defeated the world number five Medvedev 6-3 6-4 on Friday, showcasing his recovery progress. “I can tell you I enjoyed myself really, really much,” the 37-year-old said. “I can tell you that pain-free tennis is the best tennis. I was pain-free and I’m really glad. It was a great test obviously against one of the best players in the world.“
Overcoming the Injury
Djokovic acknowledged the intense rehabilitation process he has undergone in the past three weeks, crediting his surgeon as the “MVP” for the successful recovery. “I’ve played a couple of practice sets but I really wanted to test myself. The test was very successful so I’m obviously really glad,” he stated, expressing his determination to give himself a chance to compete at Wimbledon.
The former world number one’s participation in the tournament was previously in doubt due to the knee injury sustained at the French Open. However, Djokovic’s positive performance in the exhibition match against Medvedev has instilled confidence in his ability to compete at the highest level at Wimbledon.
As Djokovic continues his journey to regain full fitness, Tennis enthusiasts eagerly await his return to the court and the potential for a thrilling Wimbledon campaign.
