Karolina Pliskova Secures Nottingham Open Final Berth After Gritty Comeback
In a captivating display of resilience, Karolina Pliskova has booked her place in the Nottingham Open final. The Czech Republic player staged a remarkable comeback, overcoming France’s Diane Parry in three sets, 6-7 (9-11), 6-1, 6-4.
The sixth-seeded Pliskova lost the opening set in a tiebreaker but showcased her fighting spirit, battling back to secure the victory. “I’m super happy to be through, especially after losing the first set,” the 32-year-old said. “It’s not usual to play three matches in one-and-a-half days, but they have to play next, which is good for me, so I’ll eat, rest and get ready.”
This year’s Nottingham Open has been significantly impacted by inclement weather, with rain disrupting play on multiple occasions, including on Saturday when British players Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter had to halt their semi-final match after just one set. The pair will now complete their encounter on Sunday afternoon, with the winner then facing Pliskova in the final.
Pliskova, who earlier defeated top-seeded Ons Jabeur in the quarter-finals, is seeking to lift the Nottingham Open title for the second time, having previously triumphed in 2016.
