Tennis Prodigy Alcaraz Sets Sights on Greatness
Madrid, Spain – June 1, 2023 (Sports Central)
At just 20 years old, Spanish Tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz is already making waves in the sport, and his coach, former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero, believes the young prodigy has his sights set on becoming one of the all-time greats.
“What I like most is him thinking big and not just thinking small,” Ferrero remarked. “To be one of the greatest, you have to think big. It’s going to be very hard to break records, but we’re here to try to do as well as we can.”
Alcaraz’s rise to prominence has been nothing short of meteoric. From a young age, the Murcia native was identified as a Tennis legend in the making, with his first coach, Kiko Navarro, recognizing his exceptional talent even at the tender age of five.
“He had a very special player on his hands,” Navarro recalled, while Jesus Garcia Pardo, Alcaraz’s former hitting partner, was “left speechless” by the precocious youngster’s skills, noting that “all his strokes were special” and that he played “with no fear, no matter who was on the other side of the net.”
Alcaraz’s potential did not go unnoticed, and at the age of 11, he was identified as a future superstar by agent Albert Molina. Four years later, Molina enlisted the guidance of Ferrero, who has since nurtured the young Clay Court and Hard Court Tennis sensation, helping him fulfill the promise he first showcased on the courts of El Palmar.
In 2022, Alcaraz claimed his first Grand Slam title at the US Open, and last year, he ended Novak Djokovic’s dominance to win Wimbledon – a feat made all the more impressive by the fact that he had barely played on grass prior to that triumph.
“I think his best surface right now is a hard court,” Ferrero acknowledged. “He’s developed on these courts, but we cannot avoid [that] the clay court is where he was born. I think he will win Roland Garros at least once – he has the game to do it.”
With a bright future ahead and the ambition to become one of the greatest Tennis players of all time, Carlos Alcaraz is a name that is sure to be etched in the sport’s history books for years to come.
