Triumphant Great Britain Clinches Fourth World Team Cup Title in Tennis Showcase
Antalya, Turkey – Great Britain’s resilient Tennis squad emerged victorious at the prestigious World Team Cup, securing their fourth title since 2015 with a decisive 2-0 win over Spain.
Veteran Gordon Reid, 32, set the tone for the defending champions, clinching a commanding 6-3 6-4 triumph over Daniel Caverzaschi in the opening rubber. World No. 1 Alfie Hewett, 26, then showcased his tenacity, rallying from a set down to seal the victory with a 2-6 6-4 6-1 victory against Martin de la Puente.
“To get another win is a great feeling, and it’s been a really good team atmosphere,” beamed Hewett, who weathered a shaky start before regaining control and claiming eight of the final nine games to secure the title.
Reid, too, demonstrated his prowess, breaking to take a 5-3 lead in the first set and then fighting back from 4-3 down in the second to seal a straight-set win.
Hewett was quick to praise the contributions of teammates Ben Bartram and Dahnon Ward, who played pivotal roles in the group stages and semifinals, both in singles and doubles.
“Ben and Dahnon played their parts, and today, me and Gordon were able to bring home the title,” Hewett acknowledged. “Playing for your country is a big deal, and the World Team Cup is one of the standout events in the year.”
While the men’s team celebrated their fourth World Team Cup triumph, Great Britain’s women’s squad finished in fifth place after defeating Colombia 2-1 on Saturday. The quad team and junior side both concluded their campaigns in sixth position.
